Homer Lee issues

$1 notes

The bank, on 29 September 1891, ordered 50,000 $1 notes from the Homer Lee Bank Note Company, half to be printed with the date and signatures engraved on the notes and the other half to be printed with these left blank. This second batch of 25,000 notes remained with the printers and passed to the American Bank Note Company when the latter took over the Homer Lee Bank Note Company. They were finally incinerated on 28 May 1930^{ABNC, folder 194, Banco Mercantil de Yucatán (1906-1933 memo from Foreign Sales Department, 16 April 1930 and cremation certificate, 28 May 1930}.

Following its new concession in 1897 the bank withdrew all its $1 notes. By the end of 1902 $1,500 were still outstanding^{informe of interventor Argüelles, 15 January 1903 in Memorias de las Instituciones de Crédito correspondientes a los años 1900 - 1902, vol. I}. At 31 December 1909 a suspiciously round 1,000 $1 notes (of both the Banco Yucateco and the Banco Mercantil de Yucatán) were still in the public's hands^{informe of interventor Argüelles, 1 January 1909 in Memorias de las Instituciones de Crédito, 1909}.
