Withdrawal and incineration of infalsificables
The Secretaría de Hacienda ordered that all the collection offices (oficinas recaudadoras) of the Federation should send the stocks of infalsificables that they were holding to the Tesorería General. By August 1917 the Tesorería had received about twenty-five million pesos, which in accordance with instructions were sent to the Comisión Monetaria and burnt in the boilers of the the Oficina Impresora de EstampillasEl Pueblo, Año III, Núm. 1022, 29 August 1917. So in September 1917 President Carranza reported that $20,110, 669,45 in infalsificables had been incinerated and thar another $219,762,484.52 remained in Comisión Monetaria to be burntEl Pueblo, 4 September 1917.
By January 1918 it was known that of the five hundred million pesos in infalsificables that were issued, more than three hundred million had been withdrawn from circulation, and it was hoped that within six months, only a small amount would remain in the hands of the public, since oil taxes and other stamp taxes were taxed with an additional contribution on infalsificablesEl Pueblo, Año III, Núm. 1156, 11 January 1918.
